Art criticism:
Art criticism of my own piece Describe: This piece is done by Camilla Hanne Mailund Dyrvig in 2018, in The US, NC. It is a painting of a harbor in a city in Denmark called Holbæk. The picture shows a sunset at the harbor, there is a lot of ship masts in the front and you can see there is a city on the other side of the water. The painting is done on canvas paper, using acrylic painting. Analyse: The picture shows a contrast of light and dark colors. The background is a lot of colors mixed and kind of faded into each other to make the sunset. There is texture in the water in the very bottom of the painting. The picture shows a realistic scene. The ship masts forms a lot of straight lines. Interpret: When I look at this painting I feel happy and safe. The red colors used for the background are warm so they make me feel safe. The paining is showing you how beautiful the sunset is and we should all remember to take a break from life sometimes and just look at the sunset and forget all the stressing things in life. Judge: I think this painting is pretty successful, I really like the background, the way the colors are blended into each other. 19. Pick two pieces that show how you have grown as an artist. Compare and contrast how you’ve grown, how the projects are related, and what you thought of each.
1. What is art?
4. What are some reasons why artists make art?
I did a portrait of my sister. My sister means everything to me and our relationship is amazing.
I drew a portrait of her in pencil. The first thing I did was to make the shape of the face, then i found the place for the eyes, moth and nose. I started out with drawing eyes the the nose and then the mouth. After that I drew the eyebrows and the eyelashes. The last thing was the hair and then I just added some details. I am proud of my piece because it is my first time doing a portrait and it is harder than it looks. If I should do it again I would try to make it look more like my sister. The face proportions warm up was the most helpful one because we learned where to place the eyes, mouth and nose. we learned how to make it look real and how big we should make the different things in the face.
The most surprising thing was the eyes, I didn't know how big to make them before we did the proportions. I fired my clay piece and then I painted it with glaze. After that we had to fire it again after that my piece is finished.
I really like how the earth on the lit turned out, the glaze look good on the earth. If I should change anything I would try to make the shape of the piece better. My background in my piece is lines and I made some lines inside my flowers.
I actually really like how it turned out, maybe I would try to add some more details next time, but I think that is the only thing I would change. I used one point perspective
I took the picture in Washington DC last summer. I was on a vacation with my family. It is difficult to make small details and the water color is harder to control than acrylic paint. If you make a mistake it is hard to cover it. The hallway drawing helped me practice how to do perspective, it is very hard. The layered landscape warm up helped me how to control the brush and the water Print: An original work of art
Inking: The artist applies ink to the print and it creates the image on the print Transfer: The paper or other material is pressed against the inked plate and the ink is transferred to the new surface Edition: The print maker signs the work in the bottom margin and writes the title on each print Relief printing: The artist cuts away the sections of a surface not meant to hold ink Woodblock printing: This is making prints by carving images in blocks of wood The artist: Ando Hiroshige is born in Tokyo in 1797. He became a fire warden. He graduated as an artist in 1812. He made in total more than 5400 prints Steps:
I found the watercolor techniques page most helpful. I think it is going to help me a lot when I am starting on my project. It was also really fun to do.
The thing I like about watercolor is that it is easy to get the color darker or lighter and if it gets too dark u can just add water. It is easy to mix the colors together. I can be difficult to make the small details because if u have too much water on your brush it will kind of just blend into the other colors. |
